DESCRIPTION OF OROSEI (EXCERPT)
Orosei was an important medieval town, situated in the Cedrino River’s flatland between orchards and olive trees. It is the largest town in the Southern part of Baronia. You can get there through the “Orientale sarda” (western Coastal road), or by the provincial road 129, which becomes the “via Nazionale” connected with Nuoro. Half way is the “Piazza del Popolo” amidst beautiful gardens and dominated by the parish Church of San Giacomo, one of the most important baroque buildings of the island. The ancient heart of Orosei is dominated by the remains of the impressive castle and its main restored tower. Surrounded by the Palatzos Vetzos district renowned for its noble town houses built in the XVI and XVII centuries.
The coast of Orosei , about 28 km long, characterised by the soft and sandy beaches of Osala (with 3m high dunes) and the pineta separated from the pond of Petrosu and alternated by the high rugged mountains. In the shallow waters of the pond numerous marsh birds can be observed such as flamingo’s, herons, avocets and stilts.
Going to the North after the fabulous white sandy beaches of Cala Fuile, basalt gives way to pink granite, which gives the coastal waters the crystal clear turquoise colour. Cliffs and prominent promontories delimit the sandy hidden coves and are fringed by fragrant pinewoods.

HOW TOARRIVE
From Olbia / Golfo Aranci / Costa Smeralda Take the highway S.S. 131 DCN in the direction of Nuoro, take the exit towards Orosei-Galtellì-Dorgali, cross Galtellì, then follow the signs for Orosei along highway S.S. 129.
